No Meetups Until the New Year

There won’t be any meetups during November or December because our normal meeting time is close to holidays in both months, but if anyone would like to propose a lunch or dinner with the group I would be happy to help organize.

Ski PHP

For the developers in the group or anyone interested in learning about PHP the Ski PHP conference will be January 17-18 in Salt Lake City. Ski PHP has a great lineup of speakers including Julien Pauli, Ed Finkler, John Coggeshall, Laura Thomson, Beth Tucker, Chris Hartjes, and Chris Boden check the schedule for more information. Ski PHP has offered a discount ticket price for our group, until the end of November, when you use the coupon WPSLC at checkout.

August 28th Meetup — Brian Petty — I found a bug! What next?

This month’s meetup will be held on Wednesday at 7pm @ Mojo Themes

In June, we covered many of the ways anyone can contribute back to WordPress without being a programmer including documentation, translations, beta testing, and support. This month, we’re going to dig into the code, and cover the best and fastest ways to report bugs within WordPress, and to contribute new code improvements.

In this presentation, we will cover:

  • Checking out WordPress from SVN and generating patches
  • Using Trac, the WordPress issue tracker
  • WordPress Coding Standards
  • Effective team communication (getting your patch the attention it deserves)
  • Contributing code beyond basic bug fixes and small improvements

New This Month

We’re trying to make the meet up more accessible to beginners as well as more advanced users of WordPress so this month we will hold a short Q/A session for beginners at the first of the meeting, and in the following months we will hopefully have beginning presentations in the following months so please suggest topics you’d like to learn about.

July 31st Meetup — Mike Hansen — Theme Development

This month’s meetup will be held on Wednesday at 7pm @ Mojo Themes

A presentation on theme types( frameworks, starter, child, etc ), theme structure, and testing themes. We will go into some detail about how to use child themes and how to prepare a theme to be used as a parent theme.  How to create additional page templates. We will also go over what make themes successful in a marketplace (some insight from MOJO).
